Unit 6

Overview: This unit cover the period of time leading up to and during World War I, 1894 - 1919. In this period of there were many intellectual and cultural developments as well as new political directions. The students will travel through Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, the new woman, naturalism and symbolism, modernism, Canada's growth, colonization of Africa and Asia, Imperialism, nationalism, the trenches of France, Propaganda, rationing, the Bolsheviks, and the Treaty of Versaille. Within all this heavy historical material the students will experience first hand the music, art, and literature of the time through various projects.
 
Standards:
(2) World History:Students will use a variety of intellectual skills t odemonstrate their understandingof major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and examine the broad sweep of history from a variety of perspectives.
 
(3) Geography: Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of the geography of the interdependent world in which we live - local, national, and global - including the distribution of people, places, and environments over the Earth's surface.

Daily Sequence

The daily  sequence is a detailed outline of inclass and assigned work and activities for the whole unit. It includes disscusion topics, readings, activities, projects, vocabulary, test, review, and worksheets. Click the link above to view the full outline.

Sample Lessons

The lessons 1, 9, and 16 are shown. They include not only the instructional sequence but the objectives and standards as well. These are samples of how the lessons are set up and will be run. There are a variety of activities and issues to be discussed.

There are 8 worksheets that have been developed to go along with this unit of study.

Presentation

The presentation is part of the project. Students will be put into groups to research, create a visual and a power point to present to the class. The students will become experts on their topic. A list of requirements and a grading rubric is also shown.
